Discription
The GDG Electronic Black Steel model has a strong history because an avant-gardist and innovative GDG model has been offered by Fred LIP to general de Gaulle in 1958 and then to general Eisenhower. The case’s vintage look and the embossed silver indexes make this model timeless. The black leather croco strap and the silver case bring a touch of classic which is still nowadays very popular.
History :
LIP is the first French watch-making manufacturer which developed the first French electronic watch in 1952. Thanks to more than 10 years of research, and thanks to efficiency, passion and cleverness, the LIP engineers managed to develop such an innovation product. The main stake was to manage to miniaturize watch components.
The prototype was presented by Fred LIP, in 1952, to the Paris Science Academy. The second hand arouses people’s curiosity as it was completely new. It was the first step to the development of quartz watches. In 1953, the British watch-making Institute invited Fred LIP to present the Electronic watch to Arts Royal Society of London.
In 1958, a GDG has been offered to general de Gaulle. He thanked Fred LIP : “To Mr Fred LIP, thanks to whom I measure hours which are limited”.
